We are announcing a position as doctoral student (m/f/d) in the field of bioinformatics and computer science. The position (65%) is limited for a time period of three years.

The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our central task is basic and translational research in the field of respiratory diseases. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures. Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. Our goal is to improve existing methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of lung diseases and to develop new, innovative therapeutic approaches.

Job Description

The project is dedicated towards further development of informatics tools for lipidomics research in the frame work of the Lipidomics Informatics for Life Sciences (LIFS – https://lifs-tools.org). The applicant is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of software solutions provided by the consortia with a focus on lipidomics data post processing and will support teaching activities within the German Network for Bioinformatics (de.NBI). The doctoral project will focus on the integration of ion mobility in automated lipid identification as well as implementation of data quality metrics on basis of the LipidXplorer platform.

Your Qualification

  • MSc, BSc in informatics, bioinformatics or computer sciences
  • Experience in programming Python, R and Shiny
  • Experience multivariate data analysis and statistics
  • Experience in cheminformatics would be beneficial
  • Good communication skills in spoken and written English language
